Kodo at Orpheum Theatre

Yuichiro Funabashi, leader of Kodo, says they strive to bring people together, learning from their history and sharing their connections with people around the world. Their performances blend the traditional folk arts from Japan, but mainly Sado Island, with compositions from other artists and mentors of Kodo, such as the excellent Jazz pianist Yousuke Yamashita, to create pieces of music and dance that convey the universal spirit and energy of people, despite differences in heritage and experience. Kodo are also known for their dedication in practicing their performances, forging masterful pieces on the anvil of rehearsal. Last year was their 40th anniversary and they are excited to be continuing their performances, workshops and other projects to further educate and inspire people. They have been touring since 1984 continually under the banner of ‘One Earth Tour’ with the theme embodying Kodo’s desire to surpass language and cultural restrictions, and this year on the 1st of March, Kodo will be at the Orpheum Theatre, Omaha to sweep audiences through a wonderous tsuzumi of a performance with epic music, dancing and boldness with an ensemble that is authentically passionate about their purpose.
