Hence, she is keen on joining the talent contest at the Corny Collins show with her best friend, Penny. Her mother, Edna, who is reclusive and also overweight, is afraid of her chubby daughter getting laughed at by her competition.
Meanwhile, Penny’s mother, Prudy, complains that the songs in the Corny Collins show are “race music.” After some begging, Tracy Turnblad finally received approval from her father to audition for the show. However, she encounters another challenge when the racist producer disapproves of her weight. Hairspray is a stage adaptation of the groundbreaking 1988 film by John Walter. The stage musical premiered on Broadway in 2002 with a distinguished team composed of writers Thomas Meehan and Markk O’Donnel, Tony-Award-winning director Jack O’Brien, composer and lyricist Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell.
