Blade Runner (1982)

Directed by Ridley Scott, and based on Philip K. Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The film follows the character Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) as he hunts down and exterminates rogue synthetic humanoids, called replicants, in a dystopian future Los Angeles.

The film stars Harrison Ford as the Blade Runner, Rick Deckard, Sean Young as the replicant Rachael, and Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty, whose iconic “Tears in Rain”scene is an absolutely iconic part of the film. The soundtrack was composed by Vangelis, and is very synth heavy, adding heaps of feeling to the dystopian setting.

While initially a box office flop, the film has grown beyond its meager first screenings to be one of the greatest sci-fi films ever created. In 2017, the sequel, Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve, expanded the universe even more with new characters and added depth to Rick Deckard.
