Batman (1989) in Concert Tour

Originally launched in 2023 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film. The 2026 stops include Indianapolis in January, this Omaha show in February, and an exclusive night with the Richmond Symphony in May. The Batman (1989) in Concert Tour is part of a broader DC In Concert series, which brings DC films to life with live orchestral performances of their scores. Each performance synchronizes the full 1989 film projection on a giant screen with a live orchestra playing Danny Elfman's score in real-time.

Batman (1989)

Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne and Batman, Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale, and Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent. It features longtime Burton collaborator Danny Elfman doing the sound and earning a Grammy nomination. It also has an entire Batman album by Prince with hits like "Batdance."

With a budget that grew to $35 million, the film ended up grossing over $411 million worldwide, becoming the first film to take home over $100 million in its first 10 days of release and Warner Bros.' highest-grossing movie at the time. The show's runtime is around 2 hours and 30 minutes, which includes the entire 126-minute film plus some score highlights.

The Orchestra

A live orchestra performs Danny Elfman's original 1989 score note-for-note. While the original score required 68 musicians, this has been slimmed down to a mere 50 musicians for the tour. The usual flutes, oboes, and clarinets all make an appearance, as well as some more interesting solos, like a musical saw for Batman's shadowy pursuits, and up to six French horns and four trumpets to fanfare the Joker. The string ensemble comprises sixteen violins, six violas, four cellos, four double basses, and a harp.

In total, the score's 87-minute runtime covers key cues like "The Batman Theme," "Waltz to the Death," and "Attack of the Batwing." The composition was Grammy-nominated for Best Instrumental Composition.
