THE PLOT

It’s a love that lasted for a lifetime. An elderly Noah Calhoun sits with his wife Allie in a retirement home. She is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Hence, she doesn’t recognize her husband. To help her remember, Noah tells her a story about a young couple who fell in love as teenagers. Allie is visiting town and meets Nick. However, Noah, a working class boy, doesn’t win the approval of Allie’s wealthy parents. An argument ensues between the couple and Allie leaves hoping to receive letters from Noah. A decade goes by and Allie returns to Noah’s town with a new fiance and her family. She sees Noah who has now bought the house he has always wanted and is in the midst of renovating it. Allie meets Noah and realizes that they both still have very strong feelings for each other. Will this incredible love triumph? Or will things between Allie and Noah become lost forever? BACKGROUND

The Notebook is based on the 1996 New York Best Times Best Selling novel by Nicholas Sparks. The story had been adapted for film in 2004, becoming a cult favorite among romance lovers. Two decades after its incredible Hollywood success, The Notebook has been adapted for a musical performance on Broadway. In the same year, producers have announced that the musical will go on a US Tour starting September of 2025. The musical will conquer 32 major cities, including a highly anticipated stop in Omaha, Nebraska. The production is slated to light up the Orpheum Theatre from December 9 to 14, 2025 with a total of eight performances. 

CREATIVE TEAM & CAST

The musical has been adapted for the stage with book by Bekah Brunstetter with music and lyrics by platinum selling artist and composer Ingrid Michaelson – marking her Broadway debut. The production is led by directors Michael Greif and Schele Williams. The creative team also consists of scenic designers David Zinn and Brett Banakis, Tony winning costume designer Paloma Young, Tony nominated lighting designer Ben Stanton, and Tony Award winning sound designer Nevin Steinberg. The musical also brought in the amazing talent of Katie Spellman for the brilliant choreography.

The casting for The Notebook is quite a trip considering that the couple Noah and Allie go through three timelines. Hence, there are three versions of the main characters. Tony Award winning Broadway actress Mary Ann Plunkett is Older Allie, Dorian Harewood is Older Noah, Aisha Jackson is Middle Allie, Ryan Vasquez is Middle Noah, Anna Zavelson is Younger Allie, and Benji Santiago is Younger Noah.

ACCOLADES

In 2024, the musical received a ton of prestigious nominations. The Notebook musical secured three nominations, including Best Book of a Musical. Over at Drama League Awards, the musical bagegd three nominations and it was in the running for Outstanding Production of a Musical. Lead star Mary Ann Plunkett received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Broadway Musical. The following year, the musical’s official soundtrack received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album.
